The busts

LaMelo Ball (MIN) — Round 3; efficiency risk; Yahoo ADP 26.0; Yahoo pre-rank 62; our rank 29. Ball's passing has not disappeared simply because he now shares a backcourt with Anthony Edwards. He had seven assists in 22 minutes on October 12 after a rest absence. That is a reason to soften the idea that the new team automatically destroys his fantasy role. The more durable objection is nine-category efficiency: last season's 7.1 assists and 3.8 threes came with 40.7% shooting on 17.3 attempts. A balanced roster has to pay for that volume somewhere else. Our No. 29 valuation supports a third-round price, close to September's ADP of 26, with an earlier case in punt-FG%. This is a roster-fit warning rather than a broad call to fade him. Yahoo's current pre-rank of 62 already discounts him more than our board does. Trae Young (WAS) — Round 3; assists need; Yahoo ADP 26.8; Yahoo pre-rank 72; our rank 28. Young is back on the court, so the case against him should not read as though his rehabilitation has stalled. He delivered 11 assists in 28 minutes on October 12. That is useful evidence of participation and playmaking, not proof that a 15-game season can be ignored. His recent baseline of 17.9 points and 8.0 assists comes from too small a sample to resolve how much scoring returns. Assists are worth paying for, and our board now meets the September ADP of 26.8 in the third round. The warning is about roster fit rather than price: FG%, turnovers and limited defensive production make him a poor match for a team that has already spent its early picks on inefficient guards. Yahoo's pre-rank of 72 is a very different proposition, and any fall from the third round makes him attractive for a team needing creation. Jaylen Brown (PHI) — Round 4; value if he falls; Yahoo ADP 27.5; Yahoo pre-rank 94; our rank 39. Brown does not need to play badly for an expensive pick to disappoint. Last season's 28.5 points and 5.1 assists came with Boston's expanded opportunity; Philadelphia has other established creators in Tyrese Maxey and LeBron James. He scored 18 points on October 8; his October 10 absence was rest. There is no need to manufacture an injury concern from that sequence. The question is how much scoring and passing remain once the full offense settles, because 3.6 turnovers and 79.5% free throws already limited the nine-category return. I would not pay the old ADP near 28 just because the preseason scoring looks comfortable. Early round four offers a more reasonable balance. Pascal Siakam (IND) — Round 6; punt-FT% fit; Yahoo ADP 49.3; Yahoo pre-rank 79; our rank 72. The easiest way to overvalue Siakam is to count the points without weighting the free throws. He averaged 24.0 points last season, but 69.3% shooting on 6.1 free-throw attempts creates a substantial weekly cost. He went 6-for-6 at the line on October 10. That is welcome, but six makes do not replace the season-long percentage baseline. Haliburton's return also means the offense need not ask Siakam to reproduce the same scoring burden, even if better creation helps the quality of his looks. His 6.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals remain useful, especially in punt-FT%. I prefer round six to September's ADP of 49.3. At Yahoo's pre-rank of 79, though, a manager with the right category plan is considering a discount, not paying an obviously inflated price. NBA game log and news — checked October 13
Damian Lillard (POR) — Round 7–8; softer fade; Yahoo ADP 67.9; Yahoo pre-rank 77; our rank 85. Lillard's comeback has moved beyond a theoretical training-camp projection, and the old ninth-round-only recommendation is too harsh. He scored 15 points in 19 minutes on October 7; October 12 was a rest absence. Those are encouraging steps, but they cannot establish a full-season workload after an Achilles tear and a completely missed 2025-26 campaign. His 24.9 points and 7.1 assists belong to 2024-25, not last season, and Portland's backcourt must also accommodate Ja Morant. The practical concern is paying for the old combination of scoring, assists and availability before seeing how much survives. Our updated board puts him at the start of round eight, with Yahoo's pre-rank of 77 nearby. I would consider rounds seven or eight for a roster needing threes and FT%, rather than treat him as an automatic fade. September's ADP near 68 leaves less cushion. What "bust" means here
A bust here is a player who could disappoint at an aggressive draft price, not someone we expect to have a bad NBA season. September ADP identified the original price concerns; it does not prove those prices still exist. Several current Yahoo pre-ranks are already later than our own valuations, so the same player can be overpriced in one room and a bargain in another.
The risks differ: high-volume percentage damage, competition for usage, limited category coverage, or uncertain availability. The October review softens the Davis and Lillard warnings after preseason participation. Sabonis and Kessler have encouraging practice updates, but practice participation is not the same as game clearance. Rest absences are not treated as new injuries.
How to use this list
Read each tag as a buying range in a twelve-team league, not a prediction of availability. Compare it with the actual pick you would spend. Brown or Banchero can become attractive if their prices fall far enough. Davis is a calculated fourth-round health risk, while Lillard is a seventh- or eighth-round option for a roster with dependable starters.
A punt changes which weaknesses matter, but it does not fix missed games. Castle's turnover cost disappears in eight-category formats; Siakam becomes more appealing when FT% is excluded. Keep those format differences separate from the balanced nine-category board, and do not count a favorable build adjustment twice. One hot or cold exhibition is much weaker evidence than a full-season category profile.
